Global health weaves together the history and geopolitics of institutions, people, infections, ailments, and threats that mitigate healthy people and populations. The global health concentration considers the longevity of development discourse in part by thinking about how health interventions have been designed, implemented, and critiqued in the past and present. This includes a study of finance and governance structures that influence health systems as well as the policies around health security that govern global risk. Key issues of note involve health and social inequality, systems, governance, and security as frames and health financing and technologies as strategies for intervention.
Health touches on all aspects of our existence; whether you’re interested in biological risk, social and political dynamics that shape health and wellbeing, or the policies and systems that deliver good health for people around the world. Many students in the global health concentration may seek careers in medicine, public health, emerging technology, foreign policy, and development agencies. Innovating health security frameworks and navigating the evolving global landscape of politics is a central focus.
