US-China Climate Change Cooperation

The U.S.-China Energy and Climate Cooperation Working Group, led by STIA professor Joanna Lewis, convenes key U.S.-based stakeholders. The group meets regularly to share information on ongoing “Track I” activities, opportunities for “Track II” cooperation, and developments in U.S. and Chinese energy and climate policy that influence the bilateral dynamic and wider global agenda. In spring 2019 the group will host a public colloquium on Georgetown’s campus with Chinese participants.

The Georgetown US-China Climate Research Dialogue, convened by STIA Professor Joanna Lewis in collaboration with Dr. Zhang Xiliang of Tsinghua University from spring 2016 to fall 2017, brought together a team of experts from the United States and China for a structured dialogue around key academic and policy issues relating to clean energy technology cooperation, climate finance, and climate policy implementation. The research group met three times in Washington and Beijing to advance a shared research agenda and inform relevant stakeholders for better policy and practical cooperation in bilateral and multilateral contexts.

Professor Lewis has served as a lead author to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Fifth Assessment Report and regularly attends the UN climate change negotiations , leading the Georgetown Delegation in partnership with the Georgetown Climate Center .
