Energy and Environment

STIA’s concentration in Energy & Environment examines the key energy and environmental challenges of our time, with a focus on international and transboundary topics such as climate change, renewable energy, water, oceans, biodiversity, and the arctic. Students are encouraged to build competency in a specific area of focus — for example clean energy and climate policy; ecology, biodiversity and conservation; energy and environmental security; or space technology and policy; among others. Students are also encouraged to receive training in tools appropriate for conducting and evaluating energy and environmental research and analysis, for example GIS and remote sensing.  Students interested in energy technology and policy should consider taking physics for their science fundamentals sequence. Other students might consider taking the biology, chemistry, or environment and sustainability science sequence.
