STIA Partners with the Delta Phi Epsilon Foundation for Outstanding Awards and Funding Opportunities
The Science, Technology and International Affairs (STIA) program is proud to announce an exceptional new partnership with the Delta Phi Epsilon (DPE) Foundation for Foreign Service Education. Founded in 1962 by Georgetown alumni, the DPE Foundation has since promoted various educational initiatives and provided crucial financial assistance in the fields of foreign service, international affairs and business. The DPE’s Foundation’s primary goal is to equip students with the knowledge, experience, and resources needed to succeed in globally oriented careers and to become leaders in addressing complex international challenges.
Delta Phi Epsilon STIA Service Award
The DPE Foundation will partner with STIA to fund two new awards for STIA graduating seniors. In line with the DPE’s commitment to empowering future leaders, the Delta Phi Epsilon STIA Service Award will recognize a graduating senior who clearly demonstrates how the STIA program can transform the world. This award will honor students who have shown exceptional commitment to service, leadership, and the application of interdisciplinary problem-solving to real-world issues.
Jack Herrity Innovation Award
The DPE Foundation will grant the Jack Herrity Innovation Award to the graduating senior who shows promise in social innovation. This award will celebrate students who have developed creative, forward-thinking approaches to addressing societal challenges, particularly at the intersection of science, technology, and public policy. Together, these awards aim to highlight academic excellence while also recognizing students who embody STIA’s mission of using knowledge to drive positive change.
Joseph LeMoine Internship Scholarship
To further support experiential learning, the DPE Foundation is also launching a new internship funding program for STIA students. This initiative will subsidize unpaid internships by granting up to $5,000 for a 10-week summer placement, enabling students to pursue high-impact opportunities in government, nonprofit organizations, research institutions, and international settings. By reducing financial barriers, the program ensures that more students can gain critical professional experience regardless of economic background.
Georgetown Professor and longstanding DPE Foundation member, Eduardo Deschapelles, asserts that the DPE Foundation views STIA as a “strategic major for the future.” With the rise of pressing transboundary challenges that demand immediate responses, STIA has never been more relevant.
